    About the Position:

    Title:                Director, Global Trade & Customs    

    Reports to:       Vice President, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer

    Location:          Westport



    Position Overview:

    Terex Corporation is seeking an experienced Director, Global Trade & Customs to lead its Global Trade Program and team.  This Director, Global Trade & Customs position is responsible for implementing a clear global trade strategy and supporting all Terex businesses and functions that engage in trade activities to ensure full compliance.



    • Develop, implement and update a robust global trade program, including policies, procedures, processes and training, to ensure best practices consistent across the Terex businesses, compliance with applicable import/export regulatory requirements and the cost-efficient movement of goods and products across country borders
    • Provide a corporate trade compliance roadmap to segment partners, with clear short, medium, and long-term goals and activities; drive stakeholder participation and prioritization
    • Lead free trade program activities
    • Manage and develop global trade team
    • Provide guidance and support the global trade team in providing guidance on business transactions to ensure compliance with tariff classifications, valuations issues, country of  origin determinations and free trade agreements
    • Respond to inquiries and support the global trade team with responding to inquiries from customs brokers and freight forwarders
    • Provide guidance regarding the International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR), similar regulatory regimes in other countries and boycott legislation, regulations and required filings
    • Provide guidance and support to supply chain and logistics teams, including active leadership and participation in corporate and segment key initiatives
    • Influence corporate business partners through collaboration to evaluate, resolve or mitigate trade compliance risk; work across segments and regions to develop deep understanding of Terex operations and procedures
    • Develop and implement effective methods of communication on global trade matters, including changes in the regulatory environment
    • Partner with Terex Tax and Global Business Services (“GBS”) teams on the design and maintenance of efficient and compliant inter-company (intra-Terex) flows of goods
    • Lead the implementation of global anti-terrorism and other related security programs (C-TPAT, AEO)
    • Develop review processes for import/export obligations for customs brokers, freight forwarders, bonded warehouses, suppliers, distributors, and toll producers, ensuring partners understand, agree, and follow Terex standard policies and operating procedures
    • Lead global trade automation program, assessing compliance benefits and savings for the company and customers
    • Identify and implement leading metrics to drive trade compliance behavior
    • Stay current on changing regulatory environment and ensure that global trade team is properly trained on changes to the regulatory environment
    • Other duties as may be required


    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or a relevant field
    • Licensed U.S. Customs Broker or the equivalent
    • 10+ years global trade compliance experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Expertise in all areas of global trade compliance, including but not limited to ITAR, EAR, OFAC and EU. Middle East, Africa and APAC regulations
    • Proven and successful experience in creation, development and implementation of a global trade program, including policies, procedures, tools and training
    • Expert level experience with Amber Road or similar trade management automation system, including implementation and roll-out
    • Demonstrated success working with government agencies and ability to manage controversy
    • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to influence others in a matrixed business environment
    • Pragmatic
    • Experience managing and developing people
    • Experience managing customs brokers to a documented trade compliance program
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to effective manage multiple projects at the same time
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; both written and verbal with ability to articulate complex issues clearly & succinctly
    • Strong facilitation skills; ability to train, educate & coach at a group and individual level.
