Terex Strategic Sourcing Initiative


As part of the implementation of our ‘Execute to Win‘ business system, Terex has launched several major initiatives to better understand how we operate in certain areas.  Two major initiatives are in Strategic Sourcing and Parts, Services and Lifecycle Solutions. The ultimate intention of these initiatives is to develop strategic sourcing excellence and expand our parts and services businesses. Wave Teams have been established using a standard 11 step methodology to source specific categories, phased over the next several years. Advanced capabilities and performance in these areas will improve our margins and underpin our drive to achieve Operational Excellence.



Position Description


Reporting to the Global Category Leader, this position plays a key role in executing our strategies with responsibility for sourcing direct parts in assigned categories, utilizing the global leverage of Terex ensuring that Terex globally and regionally achieves best value in cost, quality, reliability, service, and support.  This role will also co-ordinate cross functional relationships, including product development/ engineering, materials management, local purchasing, operations, finance and aftermarket.




Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Sourcing and management of assigned categories, applying the 11 step methodology process
  • Work closely with Terex manufacturing sites to analyze changes or new issues in materials and supply to reduce cost and improve quality
  • Main liaison between suppliers and: plant buyers, engineers and segment leaders
  • Manages supplier relationships and leads supplier management activities
  • Manages transfer of past agreements
  • Negotiates and manages category contracts
  • Develops a detailed knowledge of the local business purchasing currently in place and understands and communicates key challenges and constraints
  • Clarifies and defines technical specifications and quality standards with internal departments
  • Uploads information to allow plants to order in line with sourcing rules, approved vendor list
  • Updates pricing sheets and pricing changes
  • Risk management – manages supplier health, sub-tier supplier issues, quality and delivery issues
  • Co-ordinates joint cost reduction initiatives with suppliers
  • Oversees projects eg part changes with some level of oversight and management of the process and execution
  • Participate in Wave team




Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 10-15 years experience in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management
  • 5 years commodity management or related activies in a manufacturing environment
  • 5 years in leadership or mentoring


Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Business
  • Track record of success in purchasing/procurement with specialization in direct materials with a preference towards category management/technical experience with any of the following: axles transmissions gears/gearboxes wheels and tires 
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience working in an environment of a long term strategic partnership with measurable performance indicators
  • IT skills – Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Access
  • Exposure to disciplines such as Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production systems, DFF or Demand Flow Technology would be advantageous
  • Analytical skills
  • Strong negotiations skills with demonstrable knowledge and expertise using proven negotiation methods
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate the Terex Way values
  • Results driven, action oriented
  • Process discipline
  • First class communication and collaboration skills with the ability to develop relationships across levels, geographies and segments
  • Planning and project management skills
  • Ability to speak Chinese, German, Italian a plus



Must be willing and able to travel  (travel is estimated at 25% rising to 75% during periods of supplier assessment and selection)
